Google has launched TxGemma, an AI initiative focused on revolutionizing drug discovery.
Unveiled at a health event in New York, TxGemma consists of open AI models designed to assess the safety and efficacy of potential drugs, improving early-stage research efficiency.
Karen DeSalvo, Google’s chief health officer, emphasized the goal of fostering global research collaboration to accelerate drug development.
The models will be openly available later this month through Google’s Health AI Developer Foundations program.
While AI drug discovery has faced challenges, including setbacks from companies like Exscientia and BenevolentAI, TxGemma aims to overcome these hurdles by encouraging open collaboration.
The initiative has the potential to reshape AI’s role in therapeutic discoveries.
